Abstract
Della celebre Madonna col Bambino di Jacopo Sansovino conservata al Museo del Cenedese di Vittorio Veneto esiste una inedita versione in gesso. La ricerca compiuta per individuare la sua possibile genesi ha portato a ricostruire dettagliatamente l’animata vicenda della temporanea vendita, subito contestata, dell’originale in cartapesta ed ha consentito di formulare alcune interessanti ipotesi sulla sua riproduzione. La Madonna col Bambino in gesso quindi, oltre che costituire una inaspettata testimonianza dell’apprezzamento che la splendida opera del Sansovino da sempre riscuote, ha offerto l’occasione per ricomporre un particolare tassello della sua storia, rivelandosi così estremamente significativa.
The existence of a never-seen-before plaster version of Jacopo Sansovino’s famous Madonna col Bambino, housed in the Cenedese Museum in Vittorio Veneto, has been confirmed. Research carried out to identify its possible origins led to a detailed reconstruction of the original papier-mâché work’s temporary sale ‒ which was immediately contested‒, and has allowed for the formulating of some interesting hypotheses regarding its reproduction. Therefore, the plaster version of La Madonna col Bambino, apart from being unexpected testimony of the appreciation that Sansovino’s splendid work of art evokes, provides the chance to piece together a particular part of its history, and in this sense it is extremely important.
